P.U.N.T. FOUNDATION RECEIVES $10K GRANT FROM THE
NFADA CHARITABLE FOUNDATION

ORCHARD PARK, NEW YORK-- Making an investment in the mission of the P.U.N.T. Foundation to help local families fighting childhood cancer, the Charitable Foundation of the Niagara Frontier Automobile Dealers Association (NFADA) has granted the organization $10,000 to support their “Field of Dreams” program.

One of five programs the P.U.N.T. Foundation provides, “Field of Dreams” was created to give an emotional boost to local kids in cancer treatment through helping them achieve a goal, have a special experience or obtain something special that is important to them. Patients are identified to P.U.N.T. by the pediatric psychologists at Roswell Park Cancer Institute and Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo. Many of them are enduring significant hospital stays, have relapsed, or are at end-of-life. Recent examples of “Field of Dreams” program in action has been: a Buffalo teenager who relied on public transportation to get to his treatments was provided with tuition for driving school; a 4 year old boy from Orchard Park was able to swim with the dolphins while on a family vacation; a young man from Niagara Falls was treated to a country concert and meet & greet with his family; and an 8 year-old girl who was at Roswell Park for several weeks following a stem cell transplant was treated to an impromptu shopping spree in the hospital gift shop.

"Of the dozens of grant applications the NFADA Charitable Foundation trustees reviewed this year, Brian Moorman's P.U.N.T. Foundation really stood out,” said Betty Murphy, Executive Vice President of NFADA and the NFADA Charitable Foundation. “The fact that all the funds remain local and that it supports the families of pediatric cancer patients at both Roswell Park and Women and Children's Hospital was very appealing. Although we cannot alleviate the heartbreak families of pediatric patients endure, we feel that by supporting the ‘Field of Dreams’ program, we can help families by enhancing the quality of life for these children."

A two-time Pro Bowl NFL punter and team captain, Brian Moorman played with the Buffalo Bills from 2001-2014. He and his wife Amber created the P.U.N.T. Foundation in Western New York in 2004 after doing volunteer work at Roswell Park Cancer Institute and seeing firsthand the sheer need and financial burden incurred by families dealing with a pediatric cancer. Nearly half of families file for medical bankruptcy due to the exorbitant expense and loss of income that follows this kind of devastating diagnosis.

“It has always been our vision the P.U.N.T. Foundation would be an important, long term community asset and this kind of partnership helps ensure that,” Moorman said. “NFADA’s generous investment will allow us to reach in to touch the hearts and bolster the spirits of kids fighting cancer at the very time they need it most. It also gives their parents the assurance that their child’s emotional well-being is also cared about and they aren’t in this fight alone. And that is a gift beyond measure.”

The Niagara Frontier Automobile Dealers Association formed a Charitable Foundation in 1999.  The Foundation raises money by hosting various events including an annual Charity Golf Tournament, the Ron Smith Memorial Auto Tech Competition (previously known as the WNY High School Automotive Technology Competition) The Buffalo Auto Show and Charity Preview Gala.  Proceeds of these events have allowed the Foundation to distribute over $700,000 to organizations within our community since the Foundation's inception.  These events are open to the public, with the next events being the Charity Preview Gala on Wednesday, February 4, 2015, and the Buffalo Auto Show, February 5-8, 2015.  More information about these events and the Foundation may be found on NFADA's website. www.nfada.com.  The Niagara Frontier Automobile Dealers Association is a trade association representing new car franchise dealers in Western New York.
